Benyahu Malat Killed While Rescuing Attack Victims Near Gilead Farm in West Bank

Benyahu Malat, 32, a member of the security team and agriculture manager at Gilead Farm in the West Bank, was fatally shot during a rescue attempt following a shooting attack near the settlement on Friday morning. Malat responded to aid a group of hikers who were attacked nearby and was killed by terrorists while trying to save lives. He leaves behind his wife Esther and two daughters, aged 12 and 13.

Magen David Adom reported that despite resuscitation efforts at the scene, Malat was pronounced dead. Two other shooting victims were evacuated by helicopter to Ichilov Hospital; one remains in critical condition while the other is seriously injured. Malat was previously recognized for preventing a potential attack in 2021 when he alerted security forces after spotting a suspicious individual near the Eli junction. His vigilance then helped thwart a significant threat.

Malat had publicly opposed the decision to open the Gilead road to Palestinian traffic, warning it could endanger residents. Yossi Dagan, head of the Shomron Regional Council, eulogized Malat as a "true hero who fought to save lives," praising his dedication to family, the land of Israel, and national security. Dagan affirmed the council's support for Malat's family and vowed that settlement growth in the Shomron would continue despite opposition.

The attack and Malat's death highlight ongoing security challenges in the West Bank and the risks faced by local residents and security volunteers.
