IDF Eliminates Hamas Commander Involved in Holding Israeli Hostages
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced Thursday the elimination of Mahmoud Abdel Fattah Awad, a commander in Hamas's military wing, in an airstrike in the Gaza City area late last week. According to the IDF spokesperson, Awad was involved in holding seven Israeli hostages in an underground tunnel in the Gaza City region during the war. The hostages were identified as Daniela Gilboa, Karina Aryev, Doron Steinbacher, Naama Levy, Ziv Berman, Omri Miran, and Eitan Mor.
The IDF further stated that Awad had recently been working to restore Hamas's capabilities and had been advancing terror plans against IDF forces and Israeli civilians, systematically violating the ceasefire. The military emphasized that the strike was carried out to neutralize the threat he posed.
