IDF Kills Hamas Commander Responsible for Holding 7 Hostages
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced Sunday that it eliminated a Hamas commander in Gaza City last weekend. The targeted airstrike killed Mahmoud Awad, identified as a commander in Hamas's military wing, who was involved in holding seven Israeli hostages captive.
According to the IDF spokesperson, Awad played a role in the captivity of Daniela Gilboa, Karina Ariev, Doron Steinbacher, Naama Levy, Ziv Berman, Omri Miran, and Eitan Mor. These hostages were held in an underground tunnel in Gaza City throughout the war.
The IDF stated that Awad had recently been advancing terror plans against IDF forces and Israeli civilians. He was also reportedly working to restore the terror organization's capabilities, systematically violating the ceasefire. The strike that killed him was conducted from the air.
