Israeli forces have eliminated Mahmoud Abdel Fattah Awad, a military commander within the Hamas terror organization who was involved in holding seven Israeli hostages in the Gaza Strip. Awad played a role in the captivity of Daniela Gilboa, Karina Ariev, Doron Steinbacher, Eliya Cohen, Ohad Ben Ami, Omer Wenkert, and Omer Shem Tov, who were held in tunnels within the Strip.
Over the past year, Awad had advanced terror plans against IDF forces and Israeli civilians and worked to restore the terror organization's capabilities, systematically violating the ceasefire. The IDF stated that Awad was eliminated in a targeted operation.
