IDF Eliminates Hamas Commander Involved in Holding Israeli Hostages
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced Sunday that it eliminated a Hamas commander in Gaza City last weekend. The targeted airstrike killed Mahmoud Abdel Fattah Awad, identified as a commander in Hamas's military wing.
According to the IDF, Awad was involved in holding seven Israeli hostages in an underground tunnel in the Gaza City area. The hostages named are Daniela Gilboa, Karina Ariev, Doron Steinbacher, Naama Levy, Ziv Berman, Omri Miran, and Eitan Mor.
In recent times, Awad had been advancing terror plans against IDF forces and Israeli civilians and was working to restore Hamas's capabilities, systematically violating the ceasefire, the IDF stated. The strike was carried out by air to neutralize the threat he posed.
IDF forces in the Southern Command are deployed in the area according to the agreement and will continue to operate to remove any immediate threats.
