Israel Eliminates Hamas Commander Involved in Hostage Holding
The Israeli military announced it eliminated a Hamas commander, Mahmoud Abd al-Fatah Awad, in an airstrike in Gaza City last weekend. Awad was a commander in Hamas's military wing and was actively involved in holding Israeli hostages during the recent war. The hostages he was involved with included Daniela Gilboa, Karina Aryev, Doron Steinbacher, Naama Levy, Ziv Berman, Omri Miran, and Eitan Mor, who were held in an underground tunnel in the Gaza City area.
In recent times, Awad had been working to advance various terror plots against IDF forces and Israeli civilians. He was also engaged in rebuilding Hamas's capabilities, systematically violating the ceasefire agreement. The IDF stated that Awad was eliminated due to the immediate threat he posed.
Forces from the Southern Command are deployed in the area in accordance with the agreement and will continue to operate decisively to remove any security threat, the IDF emphasized.
