IDF Eliminates Hamas Commander Involved in Holding Israeli Hostages
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that an airstrike late last week in the Gaza City area killed Mahmoud Abd al-Fattah Awad, a commander in Hamas's military wing. According to the IDF, Awad was involved in holding seven Israeli hostages in an underground tunnel near Gaza City during the war. The hostages were identified as Daniela Gilboa, Karina Ariev, Doron Steinbrecher, Naama Levy, Ziv Berman, Omri Miran, and Eitan Mor.
The IDF further stated that Awad had recently been engaged in preparing attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians and was working to restore Hamas's capabilities. Israel views these actions as systematic violations of the ceasefire.
