IDF Eliminates Hamas Commander in Rafah and Other Senior Operatives

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Shin Bet announced Tuesday the successful airstrike elimination of Na'al Abu Abed, the commander of Hamas's Rafah Brigade in southern Gaza. Abu Abed had taken over the position last year after the previous commander, Muhammad Shabana, was killed. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz stated in a joint announcement that the message is clear: 'No terrorist is immune and Hamas will not be in Gaza.' They commended the IDF and Shin Bet for their determined efforts to neutralize threats and protect Israeli citizens.

According to the IDF and Shin Bet, Abu Abed held several key roles within the brigade, including deputy commander and commander of the Tal Sultan and Yabna battalions. He was a central figure in Hamas's senior leadership, responsible for managing the brigade's operatives and directing terror attacks against Israeli forces and civilians. His efforts also aimed to rebuild the brigade's capabilities, which had been significantly degraded during the war. Southern Command forces are deployed in the area and will continue to operate to eliminate immediate threats.

Earlier on Tuesday, the IDF confirmed the elimination of Ahmed Batsch, commander of the Jabalia Battalion in Hamas's northern Gaza brigade, during an overnight strike. Batsch was reportedly responsible for managing the brigade's weaponry and was involved in coordinating arms and military equipment for Hamas operatives. He was also accused of advancing terror plots against Israel and working to restore the organization's capabilities while systematically violating the ceasefire. The IDF stated that measures were taken to minimize civilian harm during this strike.

Additionally, the IDF confirmed on Monday the elimination of Rafa'a Abu Zamer, a company commander in Hamas's military wing's operations headquarters, in an airstrike in Khan Younis. Another operative in Hamas's military wing, Muhammad Khader Fahmi Agour, was killed in a separate strike in Gaza City. The IDF stated that Abu Zamer trained Hamas terrorists in preparation for the October 7th massacre and continued to train and develop the organization's combat capabilities.
