IDF and Shin Bet Eliminate Hamas Rafah Brigade Battalion Commander
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Shin Bet announced on Monday the killing of Mohammad Fathi Abd al-Hai Abu Fakher, the commander of the "Yabna" battalion in Hamas's Rafah Brigade. According to a joint statement from the IDF spokesperson and Shin Bet, Abu Fakher had recently been recruiting new militants, leading their training, and working to restore the battalion's operational capabilities with the intent to attack Israeli forces.
Abu Fakher was a veteran commander within Hamas and a senior figure in the military wing's logistics department. For approximately 20 years, he played a central role in Hamas's smuggling network, managing and directing the transfer of weapons into the Gaza Strip. The IDF and Shin Bet noted that he was responsible for supplying numerous materials essential for continuing Hamas's terrorist activities.
The IDF Southern Command forces remain deployed in the area in accordance with existing agreements and will continue operations to neutralize any immediate threats, the statement added.
