IDF Kills Hamas Commander Holding Multiple Israeli Hostages in Gaza Strike
The Israel Defense Forces confirmed that on July 30, 2026, a targeted strike in northern Gaza eliminated Muhammad Bassam Muhammad Mushtaha, a platoon commander in Hamas's military wing, the Shati Battalion. Mushtaha had infiltrated Israeli territory during the October 7 massacre and actively participated in holding numerous Israeli hostages throughout the conflict. Among the hostages held by him were the late Tzachi Idan, late Corporal Noa Marziano, Ziv Berman, Omri Miran, Uri Magidish, Naama Levi, and Matan Angrist. Recently, Israeli security identified Mushtaha's attempts to plan further terrorist attacks against IDF forces and Israeli civilians. His killing aimed to neutralize this immediate threat. The IDF emphasized that Southern Command forces remain deployed in the area per existing agreements and will continue resolute operations to eliminate any immediate danger to Israeli citizens and security personnel.
