IDF Kills Hamas Commander Holding Israeli Hostages in Gaza Tunnel
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) conducted a targeted strike on Wednesday in the Khan Yunis area of southern Gaza, killing Ismail Muhammad Ibrahim Barim, a Hamas military commander. Barim was holding Israeli captives Idan Alexander, Matan Zangoker, and Avera Mengistu in a tunnel in southern Gaza. Recently, he had been orchestrating terror operations against IDF forces and Israeli civilians while attempting to rebuild Hamas's military capabilities, violating the ceasefire agreement. The strike aimed to neutralize this threat.
In a related operation days earlier, the IDF announced the killing of two Hamas militants in the Deir al-Balah area of central Gaza. Among them was Muhammad Abd al-Nasser Gabr Abu Asad, a senior operative in Hamas's military wing from Nukhba. Abu Asad was involved in the October 7 attacks inside Israel. Both militants were actively advancing terror plans and working to restore Hamas's operational strength, actions described by the IDF as systematic violations of the ceasefire.
