Magen David Adom Reports 3 Deaths, Thousands Treated Over Yom Kippur

Magen David Adom (MDA), Israel's national emergency medical service, reported that three people died and thousands required medical attention during the Yom Kippur holiday. The figures, released as the fast concluded, indicate that MDA teams provided medical care to a total of 3,322 individuals, with 2,268 of them transported to hospitals. Violence and traffic accidents were significant factors, with 46 people injured in road incidents. Two men, aged 45 and 31, died from multiple system injuries. A man around 50 was critically injured with a head injury, and a 37-year-old woman sustained serious injuries to her limbs. Three others had moderate injuries and 39 minor ones.

Violence also resulted in casualties, with 40 people injured nationwide. One man, approximately 40 years old, died after being injured in Umm al-Fahm. Another man, 33, suffered a serious penetrating injury in Beersheba. Five others sustained moderate injuries and 33 minor ones.

Beyond accidents and violence, hundreds needed medical care related to recreational activities. A total of 299 people were injured while riding bicycles, rollerblades, scooters, and skateboards, with nine moderate and 290 minor injuries. Additionally, 368 individuals fainted, suffered dehydration, or felt unwell due to the fast. MDA teams also assisted 155 women in labor, with five giving birth with the help of paramedics in various locations, including Bnei Brak, Jerusalem, Hasmonean, Ashdod, and Yavne'el. MDA's blood services supplied 152 units of blood and blood components to hospitals across the country.
