Magen David Adom Responds to Thousands of Incidents on Yom Kippur
Magen David Adom (MDA) reported treating 3,322 individuals across Israel during Yom Kippur, with 2,268 requiring hospitalization. The emergency medical service operated at heightened alert throughout the holiday.
Common incidents included those related to fasting, with 368 people treated for weakness, dehydration, or fainting. Additionally, 299 individuals sustained injuries while riding bicycles, scooters, and similar personal transport devices, highlighting a persistent trend of such accidents even with reduced traffic.
Road accidents claimed three lives and injured 43 others, despite significantly lower vehicle traffic. Violence-related incidents resulted in 40 treated individuals, including one fatality in Umm al-Fahm and one serious injury in Beersheba.
MDA teams also assisted in 155 births, with five occurring directly with medical staff aid before reaching the hospital. The organization's blood services supplied 152 units of blood and blood components to hospitals during the holiday.
