Magen David Adom Responds to Over 3,300 Incidents on Yom Kippur

Magen David Adom (MDA) paramedics responded to 3,322 medical incidents across Israel during Yom Kippur, the holiest day in Judaism. Of those, 2,268 individuals required transport to hospitals for further treatment.

A significant number of calls, 368, were related to the effects of fasting, with individuals experiencing fainting, dehydration, or general malaise. Additionally, 299 people sustained injuries while riding bicycles, rollerblades, scooters, and skateboards, with most cases being minor, though nine were moderate.

Violence also led to medical responses, with 40 individuals injured in incidents nationwide. These included one fatality in Umm al-Fahm, a man in his 40s, and one critical injury in Beersheba, a 33-year-old man with a penetrating wound. Five others were in moderate condition and 33 in mild condition.

Road accidents resulted in 46 injuries, including two fatalities: a 45-year-old man and a 31-year-old man, both with multi-system trauma. One person, around 50 years old, suffered a head injury and was in serious condition, while a 37-year-old woman sustained limb injuries and was in serious condition. Three individuals were in moderate condition and 39 in mild condition.

MDA teams also assisted in 155 births, with five women delivering en route to the hospital or with MDA's direct assistance in cities like Bnei Brak, Jerusalem, Ashdod, and Yavniel. Furthermore, MDA's Blood Services provided 152 units and components of blood to hospitals throughout the day.
