Magen David Adom Treats Thousands on Yom Kippur, Three Fatalities Reported

Magen David Adom (MDA) paramedics provided medical treatment to 3,322 individuals across Israel during Yom Kippur, with 2,268 of them transported to hospitals. The majority of calls, 368, were related to the effects of the fast, including fainting, dehydration, and general malaise.

In addition to those affected by the fast, 299 people sustained injuries while riding bicycles, scooters, and other personal mobility devices. Nine of these individuals suffered moderate injuries, while 290 had minor ones.

Tragically, three people lost their lives during the holiday period. Two fatalities occurred in road accidents: a 45-year-old and a 31-year-old man with multiple system injuries. A third death resulted from violence, involving a man in his 40s who sustained fatal injuries in Umm al-Fahm.

Further incidents included 40 people requiring medical attention due to violent altercations, resulting in one moderate injury and 33 minor injuries, alongside the fatality. Road accidents saw 46 people injured, including one man in critical condition with a head injury and a woman with severe limb injuries, in addition to the two fatalities.

Amidst the emergencies, MDA teams also assisted in 155 maternity transports to hospitals, and successfully facilitated five births before arrival, including boys born in Bnei Brak, Jerusalem, and Hasmonean, and girls born in Ashdod and Yavniel. MDA's blood services also supplied 152 units of blood and blood components to hospitals nationwide.
