Magen David Adom Treated Over 3,300 During Yom Kippur Holiday
During the Yom Kippur holiday, Israel's national emergency medical service, Magen David Adom (MDA), provided medical treatment to 3,322 individuals across the country. Tragically, three people lost their lives during this period. The majority of the medical interventions were related to the fast observed during the holy day, with many people experiencing dehydration and dizziness as a result.
MDA reported that 1,750 individuals required medical attention due to symptoms associated with fasting, such as weakness, dizziness, and fainting. Additionally, 1,572 people received treatment for various other medical issues unrelated to the fast. The emergency services were on high alert throughout the 25-hour holiday, which began at sunset on Tuesday and concluded at nightfall on Wednesday.
Paramedics and EMTs responded to numerous calls, with the highest number of incidents occurring in central Israel. The MDA dispatch center handled a significant volume of calls, coordinating responses to emergencies nationwide. The organization emphasized the importance of staying hydrated before and after the fast and seeking medical help if feeling unwell.
