Two Dead in Road Accidents, One Shot During Yom Kippur Holiday

During Yom Kippur, Israel experienced a somber holiday marked by two fatal road accidents and a shooting incident. Near Jerusalem, a motorcyclist was killed after being struck by a vehicle. In the northern part of the country, a truck driver died when his vehicle overturned. Additionally, violence across the country resulted in 40 injuries, including a man in his 40s who was shot and killed in Umm al-Fahm. Police have opened an investigation into the Umm al-Fahm shooting, noting the victim was an illegal resident and that all possibilities are being examined.

In another violent incident in Beersheba, a 33-year-old man sustained a severe penetrating injury. The holiday period also saw five people injured moderately and 33 lightly in various violent events.

Magen David Adom (MDA) reported a heavy workload during Yom Kippur, responding to 3,322 calls nationwide, with 2,268 individuals transported to hospitals. Among those treated were 368 people who fainted, suffered dehydration, or felt unwell due to fasting. Another 299 individuals were injured while riding bicycles, rollerblades, scooters, and skateboards, with nine requiring moderate treatment and 290 light treatment.

Overall, 46 people were injured in road accidents across the country, which claimed the lives of a 45-year-old man and a 31-year-old man, both suffering multiple system injuries. A man in his 50s was critically injured with a head injury, a 37-year-old woman sustained serious limb injuries, three people were moderately injured, and 39 lightly injured in traffic incidents. MDA teams also assisted in 155 births during the holiday.
