Two Dead in Accidents, Violence Mar Yom Kippur Observance

Yom Kippur, the holiest day in Judaism, was marred by fatal incidents across Israel, including two traffic fatalities and a murder. A 31-year-old man died when his truck overturned in Buqei'a, and a 45-year-old man was killed in a motorcycle crash near Anatot. In total, 46 people were injured in road accidents nationwide, including the two deceased. Among the injured were a man in his 50s with a severe head injury, a 37-year-old woman with a serious limb injury, three with moderate injuries, and 39 with light injuries.

Magen David Adom (MDA) reported responding to 3,322 medical incidents during the holiday, with 2,268 individuals transported to hospitals. The majority of these calls, 368, were for fainting, dehydration, or general unwellness due to fasting. Additionally, 299 people required medical attention for injuries sustained from cycling, rollerblading, scooters, and skateboards, with nine suffering moderate injuries and 290 minor ones.

Violence also erupted during the holiday, with 40 people injured in separate incidents. A man in his 40s was murdered in Umm al-Fahm, and a 33-year-old man sustained a severe stab wound or penetrating injury in Be'er Sheva. Five others were moderately injured and 33 lightly injured in these violent events.

MDA emergency services also facilitated 155 ambulance transports for expectant mothers to hospitals. Five babies were born en route to medical facilities, with assistance from MDA teams, in locations including Bnei Brak, Jerusalem, Hasmonean, Ashdod, and Yavne'el. The MDA Blood Services provided 152 units and components of blood to hospitals throughout the country during the Yom Kippur period.
