Dozens Injured in Israeli Road Accidents During Yom Kippur Holiday

During Yom Kippur, Israel's Day of Atonement, the Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency service reported 46 individuals injured in road traffic accidents across the country. While specific locations were not detailed, it's anticipated that many incidents occurred in Arab communities. The report also noted a growing trend of vehicles on the roads during Yom Kippur, even in Jewish cities, which poses a significant risk to pedestrians and cyclists who expect empty streets. Two fatalities resulted from these accidents: men aged 31 and 45. A 50-year-old man was hospitalized in critical condition with a head injury, and a 37-year-old woman is in serious condition with limb injuries. Three other individuals sustained moderate injuries, and 39 had minor injuries.

In addition to traffic accidents, MDA treated 368 people for issues related to fasting, including fainting, dehydration, and general malaise. Another 299 individuals required assistance for injuries sustained while riding bicycles, rollerblades, scooters, and skateboards, with nine cases of moderate severity and 290 minor. The holiday period also saw violent incidents resulting in 40 injuries nationwide. These included one fatality, an undocumented Arab man around 40 years old, who died from stab wounds in Umm el-Fahm. Another man, 33, was seriously injured by a stab wound in Beersheba, with five others sustaining moderate injuries and 33 minor ones.

On a more positive note, MDA paramedics assisted in the delivery of 155 women in labor over the past 24 hours. Five births occurred en route to the hospital, with baby boys born in Bnei Brak, Jerusalem, and Hashmonaim, and baby girls born in Ashdod and Yavne'el.
