Two Dead in Road Accidents, Suspected Murder in Umm al-Fahm During Yom Kippur

As the Yom Kippur fast concluded on Monday evening, Israel's Magen David Adom (MDA) reported that two individuals, aged in their 30s and 40s, lost their lives in separate road accidents. One victim, 35-year-old Bashar Khatib from Kafr Kanna, died when his concrete truck overturned and trapped him in Bu'eine Nujeidat in the Galilee. Firefighters extricated him after complex rescue operations, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

In addition to the fatalities, one woman, 37, was severely injured in a road accident, with three others sustaining moderate injuries and 39 minor ones. MDA emergency services responded to a total of 3,322 calls across the country during the day. Of these, 2,268 individuals required transport to hospitals, including 368 who fainted, suffered dehydration, or felt unwell due to the fast.

Furthermore, 298 people were injured and needed medical attention from incidents involving bicycles, rollerblades, scooters, and skateboards, with eight in moderate condition and 290 in light condition. MDA teams also assisted 154 women in labor, facilitating their transport to hospitals, and three births occurred with MDA's assistance.

Separately, MDA reported the death of a man, approximately 40 years old, in a violent incident in Umm al-Fahm. Police have opened an investigation into the circumstances, noting that the victim was an illegal resident. "All investigative avenues are being examined," a police statement said. Another 38 people nationwide were injured in violent incidents, including one serious, four moderate, and 33 light injuries. MDA's blood services also supplied 152 units of blood and blood components to hospitals throughout Yom Kippur.
