Two Dead in Yom Kippur Road Accidents; 46 Injured
Two people were killed and 46 others injured in road accidents during Yom Kippur, Israel's Day of Atonement, which concluded Monday evening, September 21. The fatalities were men aged 45 and 31. Among the injured, a man around 50 years old is in critical condition, a 37-year-old woman sustained serious injuries, three others had moderate injuries, and 39 suffered minor injuries.
In addition to traffic accidents, Magen David Adom (MDA), Israel's emergency medical service, provided assistance to 3,322 people throughout the 25-hour holiday. Of these, 2,268 were transported to hospitals. A significant number, 368 individuals, experienced fainting, dehydration, or felt unwell due to fasting. Another 299, primarily children, were injured while riding bicycles, scooters, rollerblades, and skateboards.
MDA paramedics also facilitated 155 hospital transports for women in labor, with five births occurring before reaching the hospital in cities including Bnei Brak, Jerusalem, Ashdod, and Yavne'el. The MDA Blood Services delivered 152 units of plasma for emergency transfusions.
Separately, a man, believed to be an illegal resident from the Palestinian Authority, was killed in Umm al-Fahm in a violent incident. Police are investigating all possibilities, including intentional homicide. MDA also treated 40 individuals in various incidents across Israel, including a 33-year-old man from Beersheba in serious condition, five with moderate injuries, and 33 with minor injuries.
