The story · English

Five people were killed in road accidents across Israel within one day, four of them in the north and one in the south. Police opened investigations into all of the crashes.

Late at night, a man in his 20s died on Highway 6 near the Yokneam Interchange after his motorcycle was hit. Magen David Adom medics found him without a pulse or breathing, with severe multi-system trauma. Police said the suspected driver fled the scene and, according to suspicion, later set fire to the vehicle he had been driving. A resident of Wadi Ara was later arrested, and traffic investigators took over the case.

Earlier, a woman in her 50s was killed when her car overturned on Highway 4 near the Ofer Junction. Rescue teams found her trapped inside the vehicle, and her death was declared at the scene. MDA paramedic Asil Aridi and medic Victor Goltz said they saw an overturned car with the woman unconscious, pulseless and suffering major head injuries, and said they could do nothing but pronounce her dead.

In another crash on Highway 77 near the Beit Rimon Interchange, 19-year-old motorcycle rider and footballer Wiam Aboud from Shfaram was killed after being hit by a car. Earlier still, 20-year-old Ammar Alturshan from the Bedouin diaspora in the Negev died in a two-vehicle collision near the Lahav Reserve after being taken in critical condition to Soroka Medical Center following resuscitation efforts. Just before dawn on Sunday, 25-year-old Daniel Salah from Yarka died in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 70 near the Yasif Junction; another passenger in the car was moderately injured. Police traffic investigators are examining that crash as well. Separately, several additional accidents during the day left pedestrians and drivers seriously injured.
