Israel Braces for Heatwave Ahead of Yom Kippur Holiday

Israel is preparing for a significant shift in weather patterns as the country approaches the Yom Kippur holiday, moving from a cool, rainy weekend to warmer, more humid conditions. Despite a third seasonal rain event impacting the north over the weekend, the Meteorological Service forecasts a change.

On Sunday evening, coinciding with the start of the Yom Kippur fast, skies are expected to be partly cloudy to clear with a slight temperature increase, returning to seasonal norms. While temperatures will rise, the evening and early fasting period should remain relatively comfortable across the country.

However, on Monday, Yom Kippur itself, a noticeable warming trend will take hold. The forecast calls for partly cloudy to clear skies with hotter, drier conditions inland. Coastal and Shefela regions will experience temperatures around 30 degrees Celsius (86°F) with approximately 65% humidity, leading to heavy heat stress.

Relief is expected after the fast concludes. Tuesday will see a slight drop in temperatures, particularly in mountainous areas. This cooling trend will continue into Wednesday, with temperatures falling slightly below the seasonal average. By the end of next week, leading into the Sukkot holiday, the weather is predicted to become pleasant again, marking the official start of autumn.
