Israel Braces for Heat and Humidity on Yom Kippur After Recent Rains

Israel's Meteorological Service has reported significant rainfall across the country following the third storm system of the season, with northern areas near the Lebanese border receiving particularly high amounts. Metula recorded the highest rainfall at 24.5 mm, followed by Metula and Shomra with 19 mm, and Neve Ativ near Mount Hermon with 18 mm. Heavy rains were also observed in Lebanon, causing some flooding.

Localized showers also occurred in central and southern Israel, including the coastal plain, Jerusalem hills, Samaria, and the valleys. Ali recorded 8 mm, Nitzanim 5 mm, and northern Tel Aviv 2 mm, while Jerusalem received less than a millimeter. Temperatures dropped over the weekend, especially in the mountains, creating an autumnal feel.

Looking ahead, temperatures are expected to return to seasonal norms by Monday. However, Yom Kippur is forecast to be hot and dry inland. Coastal and Shefela regions will experience temperatures around 30 degrees Celsius with approximately 65% humidity, leading to heavy heat load conditions.

A slight decrease in temperatures is anticipated later in the week, with more comfortable weather expected by the eve of the Sukkot holiday. This period also marks the official start of the astronomical autumn.
