El'or Azaria expressed his deep emotion and gratitude following President Isaac Herzog's decision to shorten the remaining period for the expungement of his criminal record, nearly ten years after the incident that captivated Israel. In his first public statement since the decision, Azaria thanked President Herzog, Defense Minister Israel Katz, his family, and his legal counsel for their support throughout the lengthy process.

Azaria described the president's decision as a significant moment for him and his family, stating that after years of his criminal record impacting his life, he sees this as a turning point. He first offered thanks to God and the public for their unwavering support over the years.

He extended special thanks to Defense Minister Israel Katz, who was instrumental in advocating for his request. Katz had formally appealed to the president, arguing that Azaria had served his sentence and that the statute of limitations had passed, making continued societal and professional reintegration difficult. Katz contended there was no justification for further hindering Azaria's ability to work and earn a living.

Azaria also thanked President Herzog for granting the request.
