Teenager Killed in Hit-and-Run Near Religious Event in Hadera
Amichai Attia, a 17-year-old resident of Itamar and a student at the 'Hetzim' yeshiva, was killed Thursday night in a severe hit-and-run incident near a large Selichot prayer event in Hadera. Attia had gone with classmates to the event, organized by the Olga Yeshiva in cooperation with the Hadera Municipality. While in the parking area near the event, a driver from Kafr Mandā drove at high speed and struck him. Attia was critically injured and evacuated to Hillel Yaffe Medical Center, where doctors pronounced him dead. Police and the Central Unit in the Menashe region are intensively investigating the circumstances.
Social media footage shows hundreds of youths at the Selichot event held in the parking lot. The pickup truck driver was reportedly unloading merchandise when youths confronted him. The video shows the driver attempting to flee in reverse, pursued by several youths, and then hitting Attia during his escape. Police are currently classifying the incident as criminal and ruling out terrorism, while Attia's friends emphasized he was not involved in the confrontation preceding the fatal incident.
