Teenager Killed in Hadera After Prayer Event Dispute

A 17-year-old named Emichai Etiya from Samaria was killed in Hadera early Friday morning after a dispute with a commercial vehicle driver. Etiya and his friends had come to Hadera for a prayer event. According to friends, the conflict began when the driver, described as an Arab man, arrived to unload goods and made noise during the prayers. When asked to stop, an argument ensued, which escalated into a physical altercation, and the driver allegedly struck Etiya with his vehicle.

Witnesses reported that after the argument, the driver got into his vehicle and intentionally hit Etiya before fleeing the scene. A 23-year-old friend of Etiya's, who was present, then drew a pistol and fired at the fleeing driver, hitting him. The driver, a 21-year-old from Kafr Mandi in the Galilee, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Laniado Hospital in Netanya.

Initially, authorities considered the possibility of nationalistic motives, leading to the involvement of the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency). However, as the investigation progressed, suspicions shifted towards a criminal incident, and the case was transferred to the central investigative unit of the Menashe police district. Police reported the incident occurred around 1:40 AM.

Etiya was transported to Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in critical condition, suffering from a severe head injury. Despite resuscitation efforts, doctors pronounced him dead. The driver, who was later apprehended by police after initially fleeing, told investigators he feared for his life and did not intend to hit the teenager, claiming he was afraid of a mob lynching.

Both the driver, suspected of hitting Etiya, and the 23-year-old who shot him have been arrested by the police.
