Yeshiva Student Killed in Hit-and-Run Near Religious Event in Hadera

Amichai Attia, a 17-year-old yeshiva student from the settlement of Itamar, was killed overnight in a fatal hit-and-run incident near a mass prayer event in Hadera. Attia was attending a Selichot (penitential prayers) event organized by the Olga Yeshiva in cooperation with the Hadera Municipality, along with his classmates. While in the parking area near the event, a driver from Kafr Mandi reportedly drove at high speed and struck him. Attia sustained critical injuries and was evacuated to Hillel Yaffe Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead despite resuscitation efforts. Police and the Central District's Major Crimes Unit are conducting an intensive investigation into the circumstances of the incident. Attia, the son of Shagit and Yona Attia, is survived by five siblings, including a twin brother. The head of the Shomron Regional Council, Yossi Dagan, spoke with the yeshiva's administration and the mayor of Hadera to coordinate support for the grieving family and community. The Shomron Council is providing assistance to the Attia family, the Itamar community, and the yeshiva students during this difficult time. Dagan eulogized Attia, stating, "We are shocked and pained. Amichai was a young man who had his whole life ahead of him. He went out with his friends for a Selichot evening and did not return home." The Itamar community described Attia as a beloved, value-driven, and vibrant young man, a significant figure among the local youth, and an active counselor. They noted his full participation in community life and the deep impact he left. The community is supporting the family and Attia's friends.
