New Footage Reveals Chaos Leading to Teen's Death in Hadera

The story · English

New details and footage have emerged regarding the incident in Hadera where 17-year-old Amihai Attia was fatally struck by a commercial vehicle during a Selichot prayer event. The driver had arrived at the "Mol Ha'Chof Village" complex to unload merchandise while the prayers were underway in the parking lot.

Witnesses reported that the noise from the vehicle's unloading angered some of the teenagers attending the event, who then gathered around the truck and confronted the driver. According to an employee at the venue, the driver attempted to explain his need to unload, but a commotion ensued. The driver then began to drive away in an attempt to escape the situation, striking Attia in the process.

Dramatic footage captures the moments leading up to the collision and the vehicle fleeing the scene. A member of a civilian security team present at the event opened fire on the vehicle, believing it to be a terrorist attack. The driver sustained minor injuries from the gunfire but continued to flee south before being apprehended near Netanya.

Initially, police suspected murder, but this suspicion was later removed. The driver is being investigated for leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, and endangering lives. The Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) has also ruled out a nationalistic motive for the incident. The security team member who fired shots was also taken for questioning, stating he believed it was a terror attack.

The driver's attorney stated that his client was not intending to harm anyone, felt threatened by the crowd, and was trying to escape when the "unfortunate incident" occurred. Amihai Attia, a resident of Itamar and a student at the Hitzim Yeshiva, was critically injured and later pronounced dead at Hillel Yaffe Medical Center. He is survived by his parents and five siblings, including a twin brother.
