The story · English

Five people were killed in four separate traffic accidents across Israel on September 17. The fatalities occurred over several hours and in different locations, including near Kiryat Ata, in the northern Negev, and in Tel Aviv.

In the evening, a collision between a car and a motorcycle on Highway 780 near Kiryat Ata resulted in the death of the 35-year-old motorcyclist. The taxi driver involved sustained minor injuries. The accident caused significant traffic jams and led to the closure of the highway in both directions.

Earlier in the day, two people died in an accident on Highway 310 in the northern Negev, near the settlement of Giv'at Bar. Another fatality occurred in Tel Aviv.

In Tel Aviv, a taxi and a bus collided on Ayalon Highway near the Keren Kayemeth interchange. Preliminary reports suggest the taxi attempted to merge into the bus lane, causing the bus to strike the taxi's side. The taxi driver, approximately 70 years old, was extracted from the vehicle by rescuers, unresponsive, and later pronounced dead at Ichilov Hospital despite resuscitation efforts. A 69-year-old passenger suffered moderate injuries, and three other passengers sustained minor injuries.

By the time of publication, MADA (Israel's national emergency medical service) reported a total of 19 traffic accidents on September 17, with 27 people injured.
