Five Israelis Die in Single Day of Road Fatalities
Five Israelis lost their lives in separate road accidents across the country on Thursday, marking one of the deadliest days on Israeli roads in 2026. The day's fatalities bring the total for the year to a high, following August, which was already recorded as the deadliest month for road accidents this year.
The first incident occurred in central Israel when a Palestinian from Nablus, identified as a car thief, struck a cyclist while being pursued by police. The cyclist later died from his injuries in the hospital.
In the southern region, on Road 310 near Giva'ot Bar, a head-on collision between two vehicles resulted in the deaths of two men in their 30s.
Later, a man in his 70s died after his vehicle was involved in an accident with a bus on the Alonim highway. He was trapped in his car and pronounced dead at the scene.
The final fatality occurred near Kiryat Ata on Road 780, where a motorcyclist in his mid-30s was killed after being hit by a car. According to the National Road Safety Authority, the deadliest day of 2026 thus far was May 3rd, with six fatalities in a single 24-hour period.
