Five Die in Israeli Road Accidents in 24 Hours; Record Fatalities Feared

Five people were killed in four separate road accidents across Israel on Thursday. In the early morning hours, a Palestinian man, who was allegedly in Israel illegally and driving a stolen vehicle, struck and killed a cyclist in Tel Aviv. Later, two men in their 30s died in a collision between two private cars on Route 310 near Giv'ot Bar in the northern Negev. Emergency responders described the scene as "horrific," with severe damage to the vehicles.

In the afternoon, a man in his 70s was killed and at least four others injured in an accident on the Ayalon Highway near the Kakal interchange. The final fatality occurred when a motorcyclist, 35, was struck by a car on Route 780 near Kiryat Ata. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene due to severe injuries.

ZAKA spokesperson Moti Buchchin described the day as "deadly and bloody" and called for change. Since the beginning of the year, 321 people have died in road accidents in Israel. Gal Reich of the "Data for Change" organization warned that at the current rate, this year could surpass last year's record number of fatalities, urging policymakers to prioritize road safety and adopt a "Vision Zero" approach.
