Pop star Ed Sheeran has broken his silence regarding the removal of rapper Macklemore from his ongoing U.S. tour, stating the decision was not his own. Sheeran explained in a social media statement that venues and producers threatened to cancel upcoming shows if Macklemore continued as the opening act. This ultimatum followed Macklemore's performance of his song "Hind's Hall" at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, where he called for "Free Palestine" and displayed political messages on screen, sparking backlash from the Israeli-American community.

Sheeran expressed deep distress over the conflict between Israel and Palestine, calling the suffering on both sides a human tragedy. He clarified that he invited Macklemore to join the tour out of respect for him as an artist, but the controversy surrounding the political statements created a crisis. "The venues I am due to play have stated that they will cancel the shows if he continues to do his opening set," Sheeran wrote, adding that he was told the stance was due to how Macklemore delivered part of his message.

Efforts were made throughout the week to find a resolution, including discussions with venue representatives and producers.
