Pop Star Pink Faces Backlash for Criticizing Pro-Palestinian Rapper

American pop singer Pink is facing intense criticism on social media after speaking out against rapper Macklemore's participation in Ed Sheeran's tour. Pro-Palestinian social media users have accused Pink, who is of Jewish heritage, of using her son as a "human shield" to protect herself from backlash.

Pink had previously shared a post criticizing Macklemore's "harsh anti-Israel stance" during Sheeran's tour and explained her position as a "Jewish mother" who was "scared" for loved ones and had a right to speak out against what she perceived as harmful rhetoric.

Following her comments, Pink was photographed at the U.S. Open tennis tournament with her son, whose hair was dyed pink. Some social media users interpreted this public appearance with her child as a calculated strategy, with one user on X (formerly Twitter) stating, "She is using her child as a human shield to protect herself from harsh reaction, and it is probably one of the most Israeli things she has ever done." This comment garnered hundreds of thousands of likes, with another user adding, "There is nothing more spiritually Israeli than using your own child as a human shield."

In contrast, other commentators pointed out the irony, reminding critics that Hamas has been repeatedly accused of using children and civilians as human shields.

Macklemore has since been removed from Ed Sheeran's tour. Businessman Robert Kraft, who reportedly backed the boycott campaign against Macklemore, explained the decision was based on the rapper's recent actions, stage materials shared during Sheeran's concerts in New Jersey, and a broader history of statements and imagery that Kraft deemed antisemitic and deeply offensive to the Jewish community. Kraft stated that Macklemore's participation on September 25 and 26 crossed a line.
