Ed Sheeran Denies Responsibility for Removing Macklemore from Tour

Singer Ed Sheeran has issued a statement clarifying his role in the removal of rapper Macklemore from his current tour, asserting that the decision was not his own. Sheeran explained in a detailed Instagram post that he spent a week attempting to find a compromise that would allow Macklemore to continue performing, but these efforts were unsuccessful.

Sheeran stated that Macklemore had requested to join the tour the previous year, and he agreed out of respect for him as an artist. He noted that, like his other opening acts, Macklemore was given freedom to choose his own setlist. However, after Macklemore's performances in New Jersey, Sheeran claims that venue representatives threatened to cancel upcoming shows if the rapper continued to participate.

According to Sheeran, the venues' stance was based on "how Macklemore delivered part of his message during the performance," rather than specific statements. He detailed extensive conversations with producers, including Robert Kraft, and activists from both sides of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in an attempt to resolve the issue, but the decision to remove Macklemore remained.

"Macklemore's removal from the tour was a producer's decision, not mine. Macklemore's contract was with the producer, not with me," Sheeran emphasized. He added that he did not want to disappoint fans or abandon his crew, opening acts, and musicians who rely on the tour for their livelihoods.

Sheeran also addressed his public silence on the conflict, stating that while he holds personal views, his choice not to speak publicly does not reflect a lack of care or support for the cause. He explained that his audience includes young people from diverse backgrounds and that concertgoers do not expect a political forum, while still expressing respect for Macklemore's commitment to his beliefs and the pursuit of peace.
