Ed Sheeran Addresses Macklemore's Removal From Tour Amid Israel Controversy

International pop star Ed Sheeran has broken his silence regarding the removal of rapper Macklemore from his U.S. tour. The decision, reportedly made by tour producers and venue managers, followed Macklemore's use of his opening act to express pro-Palestinian sentiments and make statements critical of Israel.

Sheeran stated that while he is deeply saddened by the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians and views the suffering on both sides as a human tragedy, the decision to remove Macklemore was not his own. He clarified that Macklemore's contract was directly with the production company, and that he allows artists to choose their own setlists for all performances.

According to Rolling Stone magazine, stadium managers across the U.S. threatened not to host the tour if Macklemore remained part of the lineup, which could have led to numerous cancellations. This stance was reportedly solidified after Macklemore's performance at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, where he called for the liberation of Palestine from the river to the sea, performed a song inspired by anti-Israel student protests, and called for the release of Lebanon, Cuba, Sudan, and Congo.

The production company, Messina Touring Group, confirmed that the opening act would not continue for the remaining dates due to venue demands. Macklemore, however, accused New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft of orchestrating a boycott against him and issuing an ultimatum to the production. Kraft, in turn, labeled Macklemore's remarks as antisemitic. Macklemore asserted that Palestinians are the victims in the situation, not himself.
