Carmiel Water Supply Requires Boiling Amid Contamination Alert

The Ministry of Health has issued a directive for residents of Carmiel to boil all drinking water before consumption, cooking, preparing food, making medicine, or brushing teeth. This advisory follows the detection of "unusual results" in water quality tests conducted in the city. The ministry emphasized that home filtration systems, including water coolers and filters, do not eliminate the need for boiling.

Carmiel Municipality stated that boiling is not necessary for bathing or sanitation purposes. The directive remains in effect until further notice. Mayor Moshe Kuninski convened a meeting with city officials and representatives from the Ein Karmiel water corporation to investigate the source of the contamination. In the interim, the municipality is providing drinking water to the city's kindergartens.

The Water Authority is conducting additional tests, with results expected tomorrow. The municipality plans to issue another update by early evening. Mayor Kuninski urged residents to adhere to the Ministry of Health's instructions and assured them that the municipality is working to identify and resolve the issue. He also confirmed that the city's educational institutions will operate as usual on Wednesday.

Earlier this month, all desalination facilities in Israel were temporarily shut down due to unusual weather conditions that caused water turbidity. Last week, these facilities began to resume operations, some at partial capacity.
