Carmiel Residents Told to Boil Drinking Water After Contamination Detected

Residents of Carmiel, Israel, were instructed on September 15, 2026, to boil all drinking water following abnormal test results from the municipal water supply, according to the Ministry of Health. The directive applies to water used for drinking, cooking, preparing food, making medicine, and brushing teeth. Water can still be used for bathing and sanitation without boiling.

Carmiel Mayor Moshe Koninsky convened municipal officials and representatives from the Ein Karmim water corporation to investigate the source of the contamination. The municipality confirmed it supplied drinking water to kindergarten children on Tuesday. The Water Authority is conducting additional tests, with results expected the following day. The municipality pledged to provide further updates by Tuesday evening.

"I ask residents to adhere to the Ministry of Health's instructions," stated Mayor Koninsky. "We are working with professional bodies to clarify the source of the anomaly and address the issue. The municipality provided drinking water to the city's kindergarten children today. The city's education system will operate as usual tomorrow. We will continue to update the public according to the findings."

The municipality also issued a clarification that home filtration systems, water coolers, and filters do not negate the need to boil water before consumption or use in food preparation.
