Carmiel Residents Told to Boil Drinking Water Amid Health Ministry Warning

The Israeli Ministry of Health has issued an unusual directive to residents of Carmiel, instructing them to boil all tap water before consumption or any use that might lead to ingestion. This precautionary measure was enacted following the discovery of "abnormal results" in water sampling tests conducted within the city.

The ministry has not yet specified the nature of the abnormality, which areas of the city are affected, or the expected timeline for further testing. Consequently, the directive applies to all residents of Carmiel until further notice.

Residents are required to boil water for drinking, cooking, preparing food and beverages, and even for brushing their teeth. Special care should be taken when preparing food and drinks for vulnerable populations, including children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions.

Despite the warning, the Ministry of Health clarified that tap water can still be used for bathing, showering, washing hands, doing laundry, and flushing toilets. However, individuals should avoid swallowing water during these activities.

Water sampling is a routine procedure to ensure drinking water quality meets health standards. An abnormal result does not automatically indicate a public health incident but may trigger boiling advisories as a safety precaution until tests are completed and water is confirmed safe. The ministry has not reported any illness linked to the water or detailed the specific findings of the tests, leaving the cause and exact risk level undetermined at this stage.
