Missing Soldier's Body Found After Extensive Search in Haifa

Police announced on Saturday the discovery of the body of a missing 22-year-old Haifa resident, identified as Sergeant First Class Itai Peretz, a member of the elite Yamam counter-terrorism unit. Peretz had been missing since Thursday evening after going to the "Students' Beach" in Haifa.

A large-scale search operation, spanning three days and involving numerous units and volunteers, was conducted along the beach and in the water. The search employed drones, a police helicopter, boats, jet skis, horses, and all-terrain vehicles, with continuous ground and aerial sweeps.

Participating forces included police officers, volunteers from the Coastal District, Border Police, the Air Unit, the Maritime Police, mounted units, K-9 units, the Navy, the 'Lahav' unit of the Fire and Rescue Services, rescue teams, the Haifa Municipality, the Rescue Union, and Magen David Adom.

Police expressed gratitude to all involved in the search efforts and offered condolences to Peretz's family. Peretz, 23, was part of the Yamam's drone and surveillance team and began his permanent service in December 2025. He is survived by his parents, two brothers, two sisters, and a partner. The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
