Elite Counter-Terrorism Fighter Found Deceased After Three-Day Search

The body of Master Sergeant First Class Itai Parson, a 23-year-old elite counter-terrorism fighter from Haifa, was found Saturday afternoon after a three-day search. Parson had been missing since Thursday, having entered the water at Students' Beach in Haifa. His body was discovered approximately 800 meters from the shore and 300 meters north of where he was last seen entering the water. The circumstances surrounding his death are under investigation.

Parson, who joined the Border Guard in August 2023 after an initial stint in a pilot's course, served in the National Counter-Terrorism Unit (YAMAM) of the Border Guard, specializing in observation and drones. He had enlisted for permanent service in December 2025. He is survived by his parents, siblings, and partner. The police and Border Guard have extended their condolences to the family and pledged continued support.

Haifa Mayor Yona Yahav expressed deep sorrow over the loss of a "son of the city," acknowledging the collective hope for Parson's safe return. He thanked the numerous rescue teams, including city workers, police, Border Guard officers, firefighters, and other emergency services, who participated in the extensive search efforts.

Parson had been free-diving without equipment alongside a relative who remained on a kayak when he disappeared Thursday afternoon. The search efforts involved a wide array of resources, including drones, a police helicopter, boats, jet skis, horses, jeeps, and extensive air and sea patrols along the coastline. The operation included personnel from various police districts, the Navy's Yaltam unit, the fire department's Lahav unit, rescue volunteers, municipal teams, and numerous other civilian and volunteer organizations.
