Elite Israeli Police Commando Found Dead on Haifa Beach
A 23-year-old senior sergeant from the elite Yamam counter-terrorism unit, Itai Parson, was found dead on Studenim Beach in Haifa after a three-day search. Parson had gone swimming on Thursday afternoon and lost contact later that evening. His body was discovered by rescuers on Sunday. The circumstances surrounding his death are under investigation.
Parson, a resident of Haifa, began his military service in January 2023, initially training for a pilot course before transferring to the Border Police (MAGAV) in August. He completed specialized training for elite units, including the 'Mistravim' course, and was assigned to the Yamam's observation and drone systems unit. He had planned to extend his service on a contract basis starting in December 2025.
Colleagues remembered Parson as a reliable and helpful friend, expressing disbelief at his passing during what they described as underwater sports activities. He is survived by his parents, two brothers, two sisters, and his girlfriend.
This incident follows the recent death of 25-year-old IDF Sergeant Suleiman Abu-Ghanem, a resident of Lod, who died in a traffic accident on Highway 431 while en route home from his base.
