Missing Counter-Terrorism Officer Found Dead on Haifa Beach
First Sergeant Itay Parson, a 23-year-old officer in Israel's National Counter-Terrorism Unit (YAMAM), was found deceased on Sunday near the Students' Beach in Haifa. Parson had been missing since Thursday afternoon after he reportedly went free diving in the sea and did not return.
Search efforts involving various forces were conducted for approximately three days in the area where he disappeared. His body was located on Sunday, and the circumstances surrounding his death are currently under investigation by the Israel Police and the Border Guard.
Parson, a resident of Haifa, joined the military in January 2023, initially beginning his service in a flight course before transferring to the Border Guard in August of the same year. After completing his combat training, he pursued a specialized course for undercover operatives. He was subsequently assigned to the observation and drone team of the YAMAM, a specialized unit within the Border Guard. In December 2025, he enlisted for permanent service with the unit.
Parson is survived by his parents, two brothers, two sisters, and his partner. The police expressed their condolences to the family and stated they would continue to support them.
