Israel Strikes Hamas Weapons Depots and Rocket Launcher in Gaza
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Shin Bet security agency conducted strikes across the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, targeting and destroying three weapons storage facilities belonging to Hamas and Islamic Jihad. Additionally, a rocket launch site used to fire projectiles at Israel during the ongoing conflict was eliminated. According to a joint statement from the IDF and Shin Bet spokespersons, these depots contained dozens of weapons, including rockets, Kalashnikov rifles, and other military equipment.
The IDF identified that Hamas operatives have recently accessed these storage sites, utilizing the weapons to maintain guard duties and solidify their control within Gaza. This activity suggests Hamas's efforts to rebuild its military capabilities and retain weaponry. These strikes follow a series of recent military operations by the IDF in Gaza.
In related developments, the IDF recently eliminated Mohammad al-Qadi, a commander in Hamas's elite Nukhba force who led the raid on the Sufa outpost during the October 7th attacks and was involved in holding hostages in the Rafah area. Last week, elite Shin Bet and IDF forces also captured the head of Hamas's general security in Gaza in a complex operation in western Gaza City, which involved ground forces and extensive airstrikes.
The IDF spokesperson emphasized that the military will continue to operate decisively to degrade the capabilities of terrorist organizations in Gaza and thwart any attempts to rebuild or retain weapons aimed at harming Israeli forces. Southern Command forces remain deployed in the area and will continue to operate to remove any immediate threats.
