IDF Reserve General Yossi Bachar Joins Religious Zionism Party List

Bezalel Smotrich, leader of the Religious Zionism party and Israel's Finance Minister, has decided to add retired Major General Yossi Bachar to the party's list for the 26th Knesset. Bachar, a resident of Kibbutz Be'eri and recognized as a hero from the October 7th Hamas attacks, previously held significant command positions in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), including commanding the multi-branch corps, Gaza Division, Galilee Formation, and the Paratroopers Brigade.

On the morning of October 7th, Bachar emerged from his home in Be'eri and fought Hamas terrorists for many hours, aiding in the defense of kibbutz members. During the subsequent Swords of Iron War, he served as deputy commander of the Southern Command, participating in the planning and execution of combat operations in the Gaza Strip.

Smotrich welcomed Bachar's addition, calling him a "hero of Israel" with extensive experience in security and settlement, who brings proven leadership. He stated that Bachar's joining symbolizes the connection between the ancient settlement of Kedumim and Be'eri, aimed at building Israel's security buffer zone.

Bachar commented that after decades of military service and following the October 7th tragedy, he is answering the call of duty again to continue his national mission in the public sphere. He explained his decision to enter politics stems from his belief in the Religious Zionism movement's path and Smotrich's leadership, with the goal of ensuring no Israeli family experiences what his family endured in Be'eri.
