Retired General Yossi Bachar Joins Religious Zionism Party

Bezalel Smotrich, leader of the Religious Zionism party and Israel's Finance Minister, announced the addition of retired Major General Yossi Bachar to the party's Knesset list for the upcoming 26th Knesset. Bachar, a resident of Kibbutz Be'eri and a recognized hero from the October 7th Hamas attacks, brings extensive military experience to the political arena. He has held numerous senior command positions in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), including commander of the multi-corps command, commander of the Gaza Division, commander of the Galilee Formation, and commander of the Paratroopers Brigade.

On October 7th, Bachar engaged Hamas terrorists in combat for hours, defending residents of his kibbutz. During the subsequent war, he served as deputy commander of the Southern Command, participating in the planning and execution of operations in the Gaza Strip.

Smotrich described Bachar as a "hero of Israel," emphasizing his deep understanding of the importance of settlement for Israel's security and his strong national spirit. "We are connecting Kedumim and Be'eri and building Israel's security belt," Smotrich stated, highlighting Bachar's commitment to strengthening Israeli settlements and national security.

Bachar expressed his motivation for entering public service, stating, "After decades of military service for Israel's security, and especially since the disaster of October 7th, I am called today to continue the national mission in the public sphere." He cited his belief in the Religious Zionism movement's path and Smotrich's leadership, particularly their commitment to bolstering Israel's security and strengthening settlements. Bachar added that he is enlisting to ensure no Israeli family experiences what his family endured in Be'eri on October 7th.
