Retired General Yossi Bachar Joins Smotrich's Religious Zionism Party
Retired Major General Yossi Bachar has joined the Religious Zionism party's list for the upcoming 26th Knesset elections, party chairman Bezalel Smotrich announced. The party stated that Bachar, a "hero of Israel" and a proponent of settlement and security, "left his home in Kibbutz Be'eri on the morning of October 7th, fought Hamas terrorists for hours, and helped defend residents." Following the initial Hamas attack, Bachar served as Deputy Commander of the Southern Command, participating in the planning and command of operations in the Gaza Strip.
The Religious Zionism party highlighted Bachar's understanding of the importance of settlement for Israel's security. Bachar's extensive military career includes commanding the General Staff Corps, the Gaza Division, the Galilee Formation, and the Paratroopers Brigade.
