Retired General Yossi Bachar Joins Religious Zionism Party List for Knesset

Bezalel Smotrich, leader of the Religious Zionism party and Israel's Finance Minister, announced on Tuesday the addition of retired Major General Yossi Bachar to the party's list for the 26th Knesset. Bachar, a resident of Kibbutz Be'eri, held numerous senior command positions in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) during his military career, including commander of the General Staff Corps, commander of the Gaza Division, commander of the Galilee Formation, and commander of the Paratroopers Brigade.

On the morning of October 7th, Bachar engaged Hamas terrorists near his home in Kibbutz Be'eri, fighting for hours and aiding in the defense of the kibbutz residents. Following the initial attack, he served as deputy commander of the Southern Command, participating in the planning and command of operations in the Gaza Strip.

Smotrich welcomed Bachar's addition, stating he brings "rich security experience, proven leadership, and love for the land." Smotrich added that Bachar's joining is "great news for Religious Zionism and the State of Israel," emphasizing a connection between "Kedumim and Be'eri" to build Israel's "security strip."

Bachar expressed his desire to continue his national service in the public sphere after decades in the military. He stated he is answering a call to duty and joining Religious Zionism out of belief in its path and Smotrich's leadership. Bachar also declared his commitment to ensuring no Israeli family endures what his family experienced in Be'eri on October 7th.
