IDF Major General Yossi Bachar Joins Religious Zionism Party

Major General (res.) Yossi Bachar, a resident of Kibbutz Be'eri and a hero of the October 7th battles, has joined the Religious Zionism party's list for the 26th Knesset. Party chairman and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced the decision, highlighting Bachar's extensive military career, which included senior command roles such as commander of the Gaza Division, the Galilee Formation, and the Paratroopers Brigade.

On October 7th, Bachar fought Hamas terrorists who infiltrated Kibbutz Be'eri, defending residents for hours. He later served as deputy commander of the Southern Command during the war, participating in planning and commanding operations in Gaza.

Smotrich welcomed Bachar, calling him a "hero of Israel, a man of settlement and security" who understands the importance of settlement for Israel's security. He stated that Bachar brings "rich security experience, proven leadership, and love for the land," adding that his joining is "great news for Religious Zionism and the State of Israel." Smotrich also invoked connecting "Kedumim and Be'eri" to "build Israel's security belt."

Bachar explained his decision to enter politics, stating that after decades of military service and especially since the October 7th disaster, he feels called to continue his national mission in the public sphere. He expressed deep belief in the Religious Zionism movement's path and Smotrich's leadership, citing their commitment to strengthening Israel's security and settlement. Bachar aims to ensure no Israeli family endures what his family experienced in Be'eri on October 7th.
