IDF Major General Yossi Bachar Joins Religious Zionism Party Knesset List

Retired Major General Yossi Bachar, former commander of the Gaza Division and a resident of Kibbutz Be'eri, will join the Religious Zionism party's list for the 26th Knesset. Bachar was a hero during the October 7th Hamas attacks, fighting terrorists for hours after leaving his home in Be'eri.

Bachar has held numerous senior command positions in the IDF, including commander of the General Staff Corps, Gaza Division, Galilee Formation, and the Paratroopers Brigade. On the morning of the Hamas attack, he engaged terrorists and helped defend his kibbutz. Later in the war, he served as deputy commander of the Southern Command, participating in planning and commanding operations in the Gaza Strip.

Religious Zionism party chairman and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich welcomed Bachar, calling him a "hero of Israel, a man of settlement and security" who understands the importance of settlement for Israel's security. Smotrich stated that Bachar embodies a strong national spirit and brings extensive security experience and proven leadership. "We are connecting Kedumim and Be'eri and building Israel's security belt," Smotrich added.

Bachar expressed his motivation for joining the political arena, stating, "After decades of military service for Israel's security, and especially since the disaster of October 7th, I am called today to continue the national mission in the public sphere as well." He added that he joins the Religious Zionism party due to his deep belief in its path and Smotrich's leadership, citing their commitment to strengthening Israel's security, settlement, and the country's future. Bachar aims to ensure no Israeli family experiences what his family endured in Be'eri on October 7th.
